Based in New York and Tbilisi, originally from Georgia, Nuci Nebieridze is a singer, composer and producer who has conducted numerous shows with her projects in recent years throughout New York, Oslo and Tbilisi, performing venues such as the Birdland Jazz Club, Birdland Theatre, BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Club Bonafide, the Consulate of Georgia in New York, Gamle Logen/Oslo, and Tbilisi Conservatoire Hall among others.
Her debut album, 'Dreamension,' recorded and released in New York with her sextet, featured original jazz compositions and arrangements, blending structured elements with improvisation, and infused with orchestral movements enriched by Eastern European harmonies. As she comes from fine art, the vision of this project was to produce stories as if the journey in the impressionist painting, the manifestation of struggle culminating in rich sounds as the reflection of her experiences through contemporary jazz music.
After thirteen years of working and performing as a jazz singer, while also delving into composing and songwriting techniques, Nuci shifted her focus towards production and music technology. Immersed in the rich harmonious complexities of vocal polyphony and folkloric essence inherent to her culture she created and produced a fusion of vocal artistry and electronic music, culminating in the release of the EP album 'REBORN' and several singles, all entirely produced by herself.
This transition from jazz to the world of technology unlocked a wide spectrum of creative potential, making her 'reborn' in the realm of experimental/electronic music and commercial production, and solidifying her unique signature in modern music.
Experimenting with voice structures, cross-rhythmic choral movements with beats, choreographed figurations, and variable dynamics, along with the dramatic development of themes and polyphonic motions, generates a sonically animated atmosphere. Here, the extraordinary storytelling of pop songs, conveyed through the visual language of motion pictures and modern polyphony, culminates in a cinematic experience – for capturing the spirit of modern life, with its energy, speed, and noise.
While performing her solo electronic project throughout Europe, utilizing her own vocals in recent years, Nuci's eagerness to collaborate with a choir led her to initiate her most extensive project, partnering with the Gori Women’s Choir in Tbilisi.
The project 'Sonic Cultures' represents original choral compositions by Nuci Nebieridze, which creates a synthesis of Georgian folk, American jazz, and contemporary polyphony blended with electronic sounds. Its aim is to explore the authenticity of Caucasian and American cultures and discover the connection between cultural heritage and modern music production.
This ongoing project attempts to explore the deepest cultural roots from a different perspective, to rethink the cultural heritage and represent it in an innovative way.
Supported by Tbilisi City Hall and the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, they have recorded an album and a single, and have thus far performed one live show at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire Hall, featuring the Gori Women’s Choir, along with American and Georgian musicians in jazz and electronics.
Nuci grew up in a family of artists, deeply influenced by her parents’ fine art and their use of vibrant colors. She was constantly surrounded by the aroma of oil paint and walls adorned with canvases. She completed an eight-year classical piano program, earned a bachelor’s degree in film/painting from the Academy of Arts, and graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatoire with a major in jazz/vocal. Additionally, she holds a bachelor's degree from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.
